The Odeonsplatz is located in the Altstadt (old town) at the southern end of the Ludwigstrasse. On the beautiful terrace of the Café Tambosi, one can almost enjoy the Italian flair of the square and watch the hustle and bustle of the square well. Traditionally, the Odeon Square and the Ludwig Street is a place for parades and events. [After Adolf Hitler coming to power a "march to the Feldherrenhalle" was performed annually during the third Reich. (Könnte falsch rüberkommen)] Held every year, the parade of costumes and shooting clubs leads for Oktoberfest on the Ludwig Street and during the beginning of July, the open-air concert "Classical music at the Odeon Square" with international artists is well received. The place owes its name to the Odeon, a concert hall from the time of Ludwig I., which was completely destroyed during the First World War. Today the concert hall is replaced by the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior.

The historic buildings on the site give this a very special flair:

On the steps in the cool shade of the Feldherrenhalle one has the best view of the square. The hall was built by King Ludwig I, modeled after a Florentine loggia by Friedrich von Gärtner.

In the style of the late Italian Baroque and on behalf of Adelaide of Savoy in gratitude for the birth of the Crown Prince Max Emanuel, the church was commissioned in 1662 and completed during the end of the 18th Century.

One of the largest city palaces in Europe. A vast palace in the style of the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Classicism. It is home to museums and cocnert halls.

Behind the walls on the east side is the beautiful baroque park with the beer garden Tambosi in the courtyard and the Temple of Diana.
