The art concept of Lüftlmalrei describes the art of mural paintings. Initiated by the Oberammergau family Zwinck, the Baroque Lüftlmalerei still dominates the cityscape of Oberammergau. Main motifs on the facades are mainly Christian motifs, such as the Passion of Christ, but also scenes from the daily life of that time. Since 1634, Oberammergau is the venue for the Passion Play. These take place every ten years, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Passion Play Theatre of the Upper Bavarian community.
