Olympiastadion - Olympic Stadion

The Olympic Stadium Munich was the main sports venue of the Olympic Summaer Games in 1972. In the stadium most international sports tournaments were held. Until 2005, the Olympic Stadium was also the home stadium of FC Bayern Munich. The U.S. swimmer Mark Spitz won seven gold medals in 1972. The games were overshadowed by the hostage taking and subsequent murder of Israeli athletes by Palestinian terrorists. After a day of mourning, the games have continued.
