The public transport is probably the best way to explore Munich.

MVV – Munich Transport Cooperation

The MVV maintains an extensive network of local transport under a tariff system.

The Munich U- Bahn run in cycles of 5 to 10 minutes and the distance between the stops is in the urban area is less than 1 km.

S -Bahn (Suburban trains)

The S-Bahn connects the city with the surrounding area . They run in a cycle of 20 minutes in the city center and 50 minutes in Munich's surroundings. On the so-called main line between Ostbahnhof and Donnersbergerbrücke, trains depart every 2 minutes during rush hour

Tram / streetcar

The Munich trams runs on different lines across Munich.
Some routes are also interesting for tourists: For example the line 19 between Stachus and Max -Weber-Platz, which runs alongside the famous Maximilian street at the Bavarian State Parliament, the Maximilianeum.


There are more than 40 bus lines in Munich. There are buses for long distances - the Metro buses and city buses for short distances.



One day tickets

For any number of trips in a day. There are several variants, distinguished by the following fields:

  •     Inner circle: The entire metro area except U6 (to Garching)
  •     Outer circle: The total power of the MVV
  •     Single day ticket € 6 Adults inner circle - / 3 - day ticket € 15 -
  •     Partner day ticket for 5 adults inner circle € 11.20 / 3 - day ticket € 25.90
  •     Children's day card € 2.90

A devaluation is required before starting your journey !

City Tour Card 

The City Tour Card is one day ticket, with bonus points to currently over 30 Entrance fees such as the BMW museum, the Allianz Arena, the Bavaria Film Studios, the Sea Life, etc.

One way

For a short distance for one person: €2.60.
Short-range: four stops, including a maximum of 2 metro stations or by the traversed zones. The inner circle is regarded as a zone.

For children, a single ticket costs € 1.30

A bicycle can be taken with you to the train. There is a Day Ticket for the overall network for € 2,50

Attention! There are blackout dates for bikes in the train:
Monday to Friday from 6am to 9am and 4pm to 6pm may, bikes may not be transported by rail. This does not apply for vans and multi-purpose compartments of local trains. During the holidays, these blackout dates do not apply!

Mobile Ticket 

It can be handled directly with your smartphone. It requires the application of MVV, where one must be registered. After purchasing, a QR code is transmitted to the mobile phone. Furthermore, an identity card / passport is required.
